Carter Park Dog Park Improvements
Fall 2025 phase August 25-November 11, 2025
Updated 11/12/25
The dog park has reopened for the winter.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The dog park is central within Carter Park, a popular community park utilized by visitors and locals alike, year-round. The dog park is surrounded by tennis courts, a busy year-round events pavilion, and the popular wintertime sled hill. The dog park hasn’t seen large scale improvements for many years and would benefit from further drainage improvements and landscaping enhancements.
The project goals include drainage improvements to enhance the springtime experience within the dog park, improve pedestrian safety accessing the park, increase dog safety through landscaping features, and improve the circulation and users experience within the park. A sidewalk will be added along the north side of the park, easing access from parked cars. Two entrances will also be reconfigured. Raised grass areas will be added but will be protected by fencing through the winter. The full project also includes the addition of berms to the north and south sides of the sledding hill to improve sledding access and safety.
The project will be phased over 2-3 years. Local contractor, Columbine Hills Construction LLC will lead the project. Columbine Hills has extensive experience building and landscaping parks within Summit County (Rainbow Park in Silverthorne, Frisco Bay Marina Landscaping in Frisco, River Park in Breckenridge),
Work is scheduled to run mid-August to October 31, 2025. The full park should re-open in November.
