Breckenridge Golf Course Summer Newsletter

Post Date:07/03/2026

Happy 4th of July weekend!

Summer has arrived in full force at Breckenridge Golf Club, and despite the hot, windy weather, the course continues to shine with fantastic playing conditions. As we move into the heart of the season, I’m excited to share several updates that celebrate both the fun of summer and the importance of our community.

BGC deckThe renovation of the clubhouse deck and surrounding landscape is officially complete and the results are outstanding. We expanded the deck by 33%, added all-new furniture, and installed three 65” outdoor TVs to create a vibrant gathering space for golfers, families, and friends. In front of the clubhouse, we replaced the aging turfgrass with a clean rock-and-mulch design accented by new plants and flowers. The refreshed landscaping not only looks beautiful but also reduces maintenance and conserves water, supporting our commitment to sustainability.

Stage 2 Fire Restrictions ENG 2026As many of you know, Summit County is now under a Stage 2 Fire Ban. At BGC, we are taking this very seriously and are prohibiting smoking on the golf course. While this may be inconvenient for some, it’s a necessary step to protect our community and our natural surroundings during this period of extreme drought. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and shared responsibility in keeping our mountain home safe.

bgc maintenance staff watering greenSpeaking of drought, I want to revisit our Water Conservation Plan and outline what you may see in the coming months. Our irrigation water is becoming limited, and once it tapers off, we will rely solely on the water stored in our irrigation lakes on #1 Elk. At that time, our maintenance team will prioritize our greens and tees as critical playing surfaces and significantly reduce or cease irrigating the fairways and rough. We expect these areas will become very dry and may enter dormancy. Should that occur, golf cart access will be restricted to cart path only, to protect the turfgrass and prevent long-term damage.

Our goal will be to use our remaining water as efficiently as possible. You may notice increased hand-watering around the course, especially on greens and tees. This precise approach minimizes waste and ensures water is applied exactly where it’s needed. We remain committed to conserving water, supporting community-wide sustainability efforts, and caring for the course as responsibly as possible.

Breckenridge Invitational tournament trophyI’m excited to announce that registration is now open for our biggest event of the year, the Breckenridge Invitational in August! Based on feedback from some of our locals, we’ve reimagined the format to create a more elevated, member guest style experience. The tournament will span three days, beginning with a welcome round of 18 holes followed by dinner at the Keystone Ranch. The final two days will be played at BGC, with the overall champion crowned after 45 holes of competition.

Your entry fee includes green fees, cart fees, food, and an amazing prize pool. We’re also introducing a brand new trophy that will be proudly displayed in the clubhouse for years to come. The field is open to Men’s & Women’s Club participants and Residents, with guests welcome as any player outside those categories. Tournament information and registration.

To add even more summer fun, our 4th of July Pro Shop Sale is happening now through Sunday, buy one item and receive 10% off or purchase two or more items and enjoy 20% off (soft goods only). We’ve stocked a fantastic selection of merchandise for the whole family, so stop by and treat yourself to some new gear.

We hope you’re enjoying the golf season and all the activities that summer brings. On behalf of myself and the entire staff at Breckenridge Golf Club, we wish you a fun, safe, and memorable 4th of July weekend!

See you at the course,

Grant Johnson
