Greetings Golf Community,
We’re excited to welcome you back for another great season at the Breckenridge Golf Club! We hope your winter was enjoyable, whether you spent it here in Summit County or somewhere warmer. As we gear up for summer, we have some important updates to share about course openings, water conditions, and improvements at the club.
Due to historically low snowfall and early melt, we will be opening the golf course much earlier than normal. Our maintenance team has been hard at work preparing the course well ahead of schedule. This will be one of our earliest openings, and we’re pleased to announce the following opening dates, weather permitting:
- Driving Range: Monday, April 20, 10:00am-5:00pm
- Beaver/Bear Courses: Friday, May 1
- Elk Course: Friday, May 8
While the early snow melt has given us a head start on the season, it also presents us with challenges. Our primary source of irrigation water is runoff from the Swan River, and because the snowpack began melting ahead of schedule, we anticipate that runoff may taper off sometime in June. Once that occurs, our irrigation will rely solely on the water stored in our lakes and whatever precipitation Mother Nature provides.

Water stewardship has long been a core value at BGC, and we remain committed to maintaining great playing surfaces while supporting the community’s water conservation efforts. To ensure responsible water use throughout the season, we will be implementing a comprehensive water conservation plan. This will include reducing irrigation in non essential areas, beginning with the rough and potentially extending to fairways, if conditions require it. Greens and tees will be the priority, as they require consistent moisture to remain healthy. We will also expand hand watering practices to improve precision and water use efficiency.
Our maintenance team has always made thoughtful, data driven irrigation decisions, guided by daily information gathered from on site weather stations and soil moisture meters. While we remain hopeful for strong monsoonal rainfall, we are fully prepared to operate under drought conditions throughout the summer. We appreciate the community’s understanding and support as we work to balance course playability with responsible water management.
We’re excited to share several improvement projects we’ve been working on since the course closed in the fall. These include repaved cart paths on the Bear Course, new driving range netting, and a renovation of the front clubhouse stairs and ADA ramp.
This spring, construction began on an expanded and redesigned clubhouse deck that will offer more space, new furniture, and outdoor TVs, creating a fantastic gathering spot for our guests. We are also refreshing the clubhouse landscaping with low maintenance, water efficient plantings and hardscape features. The goal is to complete both clubhouse projects by Memorial Day weekend.
In addition, we have begun the final phase of the perimeter fence replacement on the Elk Course, marking the completion of a three year renewal of the property’s entire perimeter fencing.

New this year, the TOB's E‑Bike Program will feature a convenient hub right at the golf course, in addition to the FreeRide bus service on the Green Line. If you’re looking to save money on gas or simply enjoy a fresh‑air commute to the course, we encourage you to take advantage of these sustainable transportation options. Every small choice helps keep Breck cleaner, greener, and moving toward a more eco‑friendly future.
