On December 4, 2024, Carlena Ceccon, Judge Casias and the rest of the support staff from the Summit County Sheriff's office lead the fall session of the Breckenridge Recreation Center's Junior Detective afterschool program in a criminal case of "Who killed Dr. Frankenstein." Throughout the 15-week afterschool program, the children learned how to find fingerprints, take pictures of evidence and many more skills to become junior detectives. At the end of the session. the investigation ended in a mock trial presided over by retiring County Court Judge Edward J. Casias in an actual court room at the Summit County Justice Center. Parents played the part of the jury, while the junior detectives lead the prosecution. More of the program participants and Rec Center staff members assumed the roles of witnesses. At the conclusion of the trail, Judge Casias provided a very heart felt farewell to the group saying this was the most fun and last criminal case he will oversee.
The Youth Programs team sends thanks and appreciation to the Sherrif's office, the Justice Center, their amazing staff, and gratitude and congratulations to Judge Casias for his support and service.
