Private Ice Skating Instruction & Coaching

Meet Our Coaching Staff 

At the Stephen C. West Ice Arena, all of our Learn-To-Skate coaches have been tested and certified to the Ice Skating Institute's National weSKATE standards. Nationwide, fewer than 300 skating coaches hold this prestigious designation, so we are extremely proud that ALL of our Learn-To-Skate coaches are certified.

Coach Sarah

Coach Sarah
Coach Sarah began skating at age seven and became instantly addicted. She grew up skating at the Promenade in Denver, CO and the EPIC rink in Fort Collins, CO. A few of her accomplishments include: being a USFSA Senior level competitor, holding a Gold level Moves in the Field, Junior Freestyle test holder, participating in 15+ Ice Shows, being a 5-time South Westerns Regional’s competitor, and a Sectional and National Synchronized Skating competitor.

After 11 years of competitive and show skating, Coach Sarah continued to skate for fun, got her personal training certification, and began coaching skaters on and off the ice throughout college. Coach Sarah graduated from Colorado State University in May of 2014 with a Fine Arts degree and moved to Breckenridge to continue passing on her love of skating. Specialties include Freestyle skating, Moves in the Field, Choreography, Ice Dance, and Off-Ice training. She enjoys teaching both at the competitive level and to students looking to have fun.  

 

Coach Billy - Hockey Coach Billy
Coach Billy was born and raised in Dillon and began skating on Keystone Pond at age 3.  By age 6 he was learning to play hockey with the Summit Lightning youth organization.

In high school Coach Billy was Captain of the 2006 Summit Tiger Hockey Team and a regular participant at the US Junior Development Program and other showcases while volunteering for Robby Glantz Power-Skating, Rocky Mountain Hockey Schools, and Summit Youth Hockey.

Coach Billy played Midget AAA with the Northwest Regulators of Utah, then graduated from Concordia College playing football and hockey. Returning home after college, Coach Billy began coaching with Summit Youth Hockey and the Summit Tigers. Along with coaching for the Town, Coach Billy also works with Summit Youth Hockey, is a Lead Instructor for Rocky Mountain Hockey Schools, Assistant Coach for the Breckenridge Bucks RMJHL, and Head Coach for the Summit Tigers.

 

Coach Lisa - Figure Skating

Coach Lisa
Coach Lisa has been a member of US Figure Skating since 1973. She is a US National Champion (Championship Figures) and US Figure Skating Gold Medalist who has preformed in numerous skating shows with World and Olympic champions.

Since 1985, Coach Lisa has coached beginning through national and international competitors. She enjoys working with all ages and abilities and specializes in choreography, footwork (Moves in The Field) and technique. Coach Lisa is available for private skating lessons as well as workshops and seminars. She is a US Figure Skating registered coach.

 

Coach Geoff - Hockey Coach Geoff
Coach Geoff started skating at age three and started playing hockey at six. He played from Mites through Juniors in New York state. While growing up, Coach Geoff studied power skating with Laura Stamm. Coach Geoff has been coaching Summit Youth Hockey for 11 years (including PeeWee, Bantam and U19 girls) and is currently the Squirt B head coach. Coach Geoff has been teaching power skating, puck skills and hockey skills to adults and young players for 14 years.

 

Coach Tara - Figure Skating & Hockey

Coach Tara
Coach Tara grew up in Chicago and began skating at age 7. She competed at the Regional level for four years and at the Sectional (Midwesterns) level three out of those four years in individual figure skating. Coach Tara has earned her USFS Gold Medals in Figures, Free Skate, Moves in the Field, Hockey Levels 1 and 2, and Power Skating. She is also an ISI Gold Certified Judge and member of USA Hockey.

Coach Tara is very successful with her figure skating students in basic skills, frreestyle, Moves in the Field, choreography and power skating. In addition, Tara coaches power skating for hockey players and teams of all ages and levels. Highlights of Tara’s coaching career include:

  • 2010 Thurderbirds Bantam AAA “Fastest Skater” 2nd place 2005 AAA
  • Nationals U-16 Skills Competition; “Fastest Skater” Champion 2001
  • Collegiate Novice Ladies National Champion
Coach Tara’s goal as a coach is to help any skater be the best they can be, to help them achieve their goals, and to realize their true potential both on and off the ice. It is her belief and understanding that all skaters learn differently, progress at their own pace, and she always recognizes that there is something positive in everything a skater does. She enjoys every opportunity to share her passion for skating with her skaters.

 

 

 

Coach Wren - Hockey

Coach Wren
Coach Wren has been skating since age three and has played hockey since age 7. He grew up in Denver and played for the University of Oregon as a 3 year starter. Coach Wren has coached hockey since 2003 and specializes in goaltending. He has coached with Okanagan Hockey School, Banff Hockey School and Rick Heinz Goaltending Camps. He is a Level 4 USA Hockey certified coach and has worked with the Town of Breckenridge since 2015. He also coaches the Summit Youth Hockey PeeWee A team, all of the goaltenders within Summit Youth Hockey and is the Goaltending Coach for the Breckenridge Bucks of the RMJHL Junior "A" Hockey Club. He has also coached for Summit High School and Mullen High School.

Coach Wren enjoys coaching both youth and adult hockey, and is adept at teaching skating, stick handling, passing and shooting though his favorite is goaltending. 

 

Coach Chantal Coach Chantal
Coach Chantal grew up in Chicago and Mt. Prospect, Illinois, and took her first skating lessons at age 8. She competed in as many ISIA (now ISI) recreational competitions as she could for the next 10 years, and traveled all over the United States doing so. She also continued to participate in ice shows each spring at her home rink, the Glenview Ice Center, and was chosen as a special soloist in her final two shows. The shows were the highlight of each year for her, and she's excited to help bring the Breckenridge Ice Show to this higher level, and introduce the Breck skaters to the fun of participating in a show.

As a teenager, Coach Chantal became very involved in team precision skating, and was a member of the 1995 undefeated world champion Glenview Junior Blades team. Coach Chantal first began coaching private students and teaching learn-to-skate lessons while she was in college at The University of Iowa. She has taught figure skaters from age 2 to 72, and is excited to be bringing this coaching experience and love of the ice to Breckenridge.

 

Coach Chris - Hockey Coach Chris
Coach Chris grew up playing hockey in Wyomissing, PA for the Timberline Wolfpack. In college, Coach Chris helped to form the Marshall University Club Men’s team, in addition to playing for select adult tournament teams. Coach Chris was also the Head Coach of the WV Wild Bantam team, and currently helps coach the Summit Youth Hockey Peewee A team. Coach Chris also currently helps coach the Stephen C. West Ice Arena's Back-to-the-Blades, Breck Betties, and Learn-to-Skate programs.

 

Coach Luke - Hockey Coach Luke
Coach Luke has been skating since age three and has played hockey since age four with the St. Peters Spirit program in St. Peters, Missouri. He has been working in ice rinks and teaching skating and hockey classes for almost 7 years. Coach Luke has taught our Afterschool, Youth and Teen/Adult lessons for the Stephen C. West Ice Arena since 2015.

Coach Luke enjoys working with kids but is hoping to help anyone who is interested in improving their skating or hockey playing abilities.

 

Coach Mark Coach Mark
Coach Mark grew up playing hockey in Massachusetts and has been involved with youth sports for many years. He is currently a USA Hockey Certified Level 4 Coach. For the last several years, Coach Mark has coached Mites, Squirts and Peewees in the Summit Youth Hockey Program. Coach Mark is interested in helping younger players with skating and skill development.
