Youth Cross Country Skiing Programs
Afterschool Nordic Skiing (Ages 5-13)
Youth Nordic Skiing-Beginner offers an introduction to cross country skiing for kids new to snow sports, gets kids with some downhill or snowboarding experience comfortable on Nordic skis, and develops technical skills for kids with some previous Nordic experience.
Youth Nordic Skiing-Intermediate develops cross country skiing skills for kids with previous Nordic experience. To enroll in the intermediate program, participants should have completed at least 2 seasons of Bill Koch, Beginning Youth Nordic Skiing, or have equivalent Nordic experience. Kids should be able to put on all gear by themselves, ski with or without poles, and safely stop using a wedge. Participants will be introduced to climbing and descending small hills, the half wedge, classic skiing in the tracks, and skate skiing.
For both programs, kids should have multiple layers each day. Jackets, hats, and gloves are required, ski pants are highly recommended (limited extra clothing will be available). Family members are invited to participate in relays on the final day of class. Equipment (skis/boots/poles) provided. Gear is available for participants to borrow outside of class times as well.
