Figure Skating in Breckenridge

Figure skating for all levels is offered at the Stephen C. West Ice Arena. We offer instruction, ice time and biannual performances. From never-evers to competitive skaters and locals to out-of-town visitors, we have a skating program to suit you.

Skaters are required to pay a one-time annual membership fee to LEARN TO SKATE USA by clicking here. This ensures membership, additional skating information and benefits as a skater in the program. USFS Basic Skills program is for recreational, figure and hockey skaters.

Bridge to Freestyle (Ages 9-13)

Bridge to Freestyle is a group skating class for skaters who have passed Basic Skills (or Instructor placed) and are working on more advance elements. This class prepares and helps skaters practice skills for freestyle sessions while creating friendships and getting extra coaching. During this 30 minute class skaters will work on USFSA Freestyle levels 1-6. You may also make arrangements for private lessons and there will be 15 minutes of practice time after class.

Edges (Ages 8 & Up)

Edges are the foundation of figure skating. This class focuses on control, power, and quality of skating gained through the use of skate edges, along with the basics of skating. Skaters learn how to maneuver with grace and ease as they improve in this area of their skating. It is essential for skaters to spend time focusing on edge work to improve all aspects of their skating.

The purpose of this class is to prepare skaters for Moves in the Field tests, improve connecting steps, power, quickness, extension, and control. If you do not consider yourself an intermediate and above skater, we highly recommend taking a concurrent Adult/Teen or Youth Skating class (also offered on Tuesdays or Saturdays.)

SHOWTIME Ice Skating (Ages 10-17)

The weekly SHOWTIME class focuses on learning and practicing a choreographed group number for the Winter Ice Show, held Friday, December 8 at 7:00pm. More group numbers are now being included in our bi-annual ice skating shows to take them beyond the exhibition level. Skaters perform with other skaters of similar skating levels, so the group skating routines are a great way to meet other skaters and to have fun! All soloists need to participate in a choreographed group routine in order to skate a solo in the show.

Skaters enrolling in SHOWTIME should have basic skating skills and either be participating in ice skating classes or taking private lessons to continue to improve their skating skills. If you or your child would like to participate in SHOWTIME, but are not currently enrolled in an ice skating group class or private lessons, please contact the Ice Programs Coordinator, at 970-547-7883 for approval.

Skaters are expected to attend all class dates, as it is very important to have all group members present while choreography is learned and practiced. In addition, skaters are required to attend the show dress rehearsal held Thursday, December 7 from 4:30-6:00pm.

Afterschool SHOWTIME Ice School (Ages 5-12)

Has your child completed several classes of our ice skating lessons and is ready for the next step in the skating world? Enroll him or her in our Showtime program for a chance to perform in front of an audience. All that's needed is for your child to want to shake her/his booty and to learn choreography to a skating routine to be performed in the Winter Ice Show, held on Friday, December 8 at 7:00pm.

Basic skating skills are required for this class. For questions regarding skating ability, please contact the Ice Programs Coordinator at (970) 547-7883. Students skate with an instructor on the indoor ice rink to learn new skating skills and choreography. Skate rental is included in program fee. Please be sure that your child dresses accordingly to be skating OUTDOOR. This includes socks, snow pants, jacket, hat and gloves.

Participants are expected to attend all 9 class dates, as it is very important to be present when learning and practicing choreography. Participants must also plan to attend the skate show dress rehearsal on Thursday, December 7th from 4:30-6:00pm. The costume fee is also included with registration.
